Akira Monaghan
Associate
I am particularly interested in how tFA seeks to advocate for self determination in remote communities. Through rigorous engagement and design process for housing and community facilities, our intent is to improve existing conditions and support future growth.
Akira is an Associate and Registered Architect, creating positive change through collaborative design with First Nations communities across WA and the NT. Her portfolio includes housing, educational, cultural, and community projects that offer functional excellence and positive social impact.
Currently, Akira is playing a pivotal role in delivering housing and infrastructure projects for Martu communities in the Western Desert. She contributed to the Ngurra Palyamaniny housing upgrade program in Punmu, Kunawarritji, and Parnngurr, and is a member of Healthabitat’s Survey/Fix team, where she works to enhance health hardware systems in remote housing.
Akira is also involved in a series of collaborative masterplans for communities on the Tiwi Islands, helping to align community aspirations with sustainable development priorities. This project exemplifies her commitment to creating culturally responsive design solutions that foster long-term community prosperity.
